Your skin needs oil to keep it supple. That fine layer of oil on the surface of the skin prevents moisture loss from your skin, keeping it soft and supple, locking the moisture within it. That is why your skin produces sebum. To prevent the water from evaporating away.

However it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Too much oil clogs the pores leading to pimples,blackheads, whiteheads and blemishes.

Problem skin tends to be very oily and needs special management to keep it clear. On the positive side, oily skin stays younger longer.

If your skin is oily, the last thing you'd want on your skin is more oil.

That doesn't mean you can do away with moisturizers. Even oily skin can get dehydrated -- oily on the outside, dry on the inside. Dehydrated skin lacks moisture. Fine lines appear on teh skin and skin ages prematurely.

Even if your skin is oily, you still need to use a moisturizer. Richer moisturizers can clog your pores. So go for the oil-free moisturizers. These give your skin the much needed moisture without adding more oil to your already oily skin.

Like-wise everything you put on your face has to be oil-free.

• oil-free moisturizers -- water based to give you moisture, not oil.
• oil-free makeup that perfects the skin without clogging the pores.
• oil-free essence to treat the skin.
• foaming or wash off cleansers rather than cream or milk cleansers that leave a protective film.
• weekly clay mask to purify the skin.
• weekly scrub to exfoliate skin and unblock pores.

All these have to be oil free so you don't end up with more pimples.
