moisturizer
A moisturizer protects your skin. It prevents your skin from losing excessive moisture. Moisturizers keep skin soft and supple.
A basic moisturizer usually consists of two parts, one that is water based and another that is oil based. As oil and water do not mix, an emulsifier is used to keep the oil and water particles suspended together in the form of an emulsion. A lotion is predominantly water based with tiny oil droplets suspended in it. A cream is oil based with tiny droplets of water suspended in it. Common natural emulsifiers include beeswax and lecithin.
These days, a skin care moisturizer cream would contain a myriad of ingredients dissolved in the oil and water carriers within the cream to treat everything from wrinkles to acne. Tinted moisturizers take the place of foundation in providing a hint of color even while they care for the skin. These are ideal for clear skin that needs some color and minimal, if any coverage. If you want a tinted, all natural moisturizer, you might want to try out these tinted moisturizers.
On the subject of natural moisturizers, L"Occitane moisturizers use botanical ingredients to treat the skin. If it is luxury and performance you want, Chanel moisturizing lotions are hard to beat.
Dry skin needs moisturizer. Dry skin lacks sufficient lubrication on the surface. A rich moisturizer that is oil-based would lubricate skin that has insufficient oil. The oil on the surface of your skin prevents the moisture within the skin from escaping. Oil-based moisturizers replenish the oil, hence giving your skin the lubrication and protection it needs.
During winter, you would need moisturizer more than ever. Try going without any moisturizer throughout one winter. Your skin would become dry, cracked and peel for lack of moisture. Even vaseline moisturizers, petroleum based products, protect the skin wonderfully on a winter"s day. At very least, they form a protective barrier between your skin and the environment. cetaphil moisturizers are as basic as you can get. They are hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types, from the dry, sensitive skin to skin with acne.
In general, different skin types fare best with different types of moisturizers. Dry skin needs more oil, dehydrated skin needs water. All skin types require protection from the environment, like sunscreens for protection against the sun"s UV rays, antioxidants to protect the skin from free radical damage. Even oily skin needs a water-based moisturizer.
Some of the ingredients that would benefit all skin types include
- Hyaluronic acid - This is found naturally in your skin. It moisturizes your skin and joints. Plazan Facial Care Series increases your skin"s natural hyaluronic acid content.
- Vitamins C and E, co-enzyme Q10, green tea, pycnogenol and other antioxidants - These neutralize free radicals that would damage your skin cells. You would find many of these in Avalon Organics moisturizers
- Sunscreens and sunblocks - These protect your skin from the sun"s UV rays that would otherwise damage your skin, cause premature aging and increase the risk of skin cancer. These are necessary only in daytime moisturizers.
- Glycerin - a humectant that draws water from atmosphere into the skin.
- Aloe vera, chamomile extract and other anti-irritants.
- Essential oils for treating various skin conditions and for pampering the senses. You"ll find these in avalon moisturizers
Let"s take a look at each specific skin type and the best moisturizer for each particular skin type.
Dry Skin Moisturizer
Dry skin is skin that lacks sufficient oil. This skin is most in need of a good moisturizer that delivers both oil and water, or at very least, to form a protective barrier between the skin and the elements.
Typically, moisturizers for dry skin are rich in emollients. Plant oils, shea butter, cocoa butter and mineral oil are examples of emollients that feel wonderful on dry, parched skin that is starved of both oil and water. They form the protective barrier the skin needs to stay healthy and supple.
Dry skin gets fine lines more easily than other skin types. The way to keep your skin line-free as long as possible and to minimize the lines when they do appear is to moisturize and to stay out of the sun, or at least use an SPF. Olay age defying moisturizer is a good anti-aging moisturizer to use on dry skin. Strivectin moisturizers are touted to be better than botox. They are very rich. Too rich in fact for oily skin, but ideal for dry skin.
Dehydrated Skin Moisturizer
Dehydrated skin might be mistaken for dry skin. Both skin types desperately need moisture. There is a difference. Dry skin lacks oil while dehydrated skin might be producing too much oil underneath the parched appearance.
How is this possible?
When you have oily or acne, what do you do? Attack the oil. Dry it up with alcohol to dry up the zits and get rid of the shine. You might get overly successful and dry up the surface oil more than you should. The skin gets those fine dry lines due to the lack of moisture as water escapes when there isn"t enough oil to lock in the moisture. At the same time, the oil glands beneath are producing like crazy, to make up for the short fall. Your skin is oily underneath but dry on the surface.
If you treat dehydrated skin like dry skin and pile on the emollients, you could well end up with an acne break out.
What you should do is to treat your skin gently. Stop using alcohol or anything that might dry the skin excessively.
Use a moisturizer that does not contain oil. Something rich in hyaluronic acid which contains glycerin would be good. Go for water-based moisturizers and oil-free moisturizers.
Mature Skin Moisturizer
For mature skin, there are so many anti-aging moisturizers in the market, you can take your pick. Some have patented ingredients or secret formulas while others openly list the source of their fountain of youth. Go with your skin type. Dry or oily and pick the anti-aging version for your moisturizer. If the thought of using placenta extracts on your face doesn"t freak you out, try Plazan Facial Care Series. It is the beauty secret of many mature celebs who still look fabulous.
Acne Moisturizer
In the first place, does acne prone skin need moisturizer?
Oily skin is also exposed to the elements. Harsh winds, UV rays from the sun, pollution would all damage bare skin. A moisturizer gives the skin some protection. On top of that, the right moisturizer can actually help you control your acne problem.
The trick is to go for an acne moisturizer that would treat acne. These are typically oil free and water based. They would probably contain anti-bacterial ingredients like triclosan or tea-tree oil to kill bacteria. The ideal moisturizer of skin with acne is a acne moisturizer with sunscreen. You"d fight acne and protect your skin from the sun"s UV rays at the same time.
Noxzema Plus has a cleanser with built-in moisturizers, made specifically for acne skin.
Oily Skin Moisturizer
If your skin is oily, it should lock in the moisture more effectively than dry skin. Even then, when the first signs of wrinkles appear on oily skin, the wrinkles tend to be deep. Oily or not, your skin needs protection from the UV rays of the sun, from free radicals in the atmosphere and from pollution.
Oily skin can also become dehydrated. It might be oily but still lack water. If that happens, drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin from within and cut down your intake of alcohol.
An oil-free moisturizer is ideal for oily skin. This would usually be water based, or even in a gel form. For the day, pick one that has sunscreen or sunblock as well.
Eye Cream
The skin around your eyes is more delicate than the rest of your face. When you apply an eye cream, pat it on gently with your little finger and avoid tugging your skin in any way. You want to prevent wrinkles, not create them.
It is good to start using an anti wrinkle eye cream while you are young and continue using it over the decades to minimize the appearance of crows feet. It is easier to prevent wrinkles than to erase them in the future. In my opinion, the best eye cream is one that fades dark circles and reduces crows line. Hylexin eye cream has got to be the best for fading dark circles while Strivectin eye cream is the best for crows feet. If only they could combine the two.
Clarins eye care has eye contour products which are pretty good. Check out these eye beauty products and eye wrinkle cream.
Body Lotion
Body lotions deliver more than just moisture. A good skin care body lotion might also treat cellulite, or even give you a fake tan. Nivea body moisturizers do both and are very affordable. Aveeno lotions are soothing. Escada body lotions are gloriously scented. Browse through these lotions for all the moisture and pampering your hands, feet and body require.Looking for the cheapest moisturizer product online?
