dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a medical procedure in which anesthesia is used on the patient's skin and a dermatologic surgeon uses a specialized instrument to exfoliate the skin, pretty much the way you'd sandpaper a rough piece of wood. By "sanding away" the top layer of skin, the skin appears smoother and fresher as the younger skin beneath is revealed. Dermabrasion is used for the following purposes.
Since dermabrasion actually removes the old skin to smoothen wrinkles, it is more effective than the best anti wrinkle cream in the stores. Dermabrasion has it problems though. First, the cost. It is more expensive than your regular anti wrinkle cream. This is a surgical procedure and comes with the risk of infection, plus the pain and redness from the procedure after anesthetic has worn off. On top of that, scar tissue that forms might give the patient a plasticky look. Also, the patient might end up with uneven skin or darkened skin. A gentler alternative to dermabrasion is Microdermabrasion, where micro-particles are blasted on the skin to smoothen it. This can be done at lunchtime and the patient might experience some redness or sun sensitivity after that, but you get the glowing, smoother skin look right away. Back in my younger single days, I went to a doctor for my facials as I had a very bad case of acne. My doctor included microdermabrasion as part of the treatment. Basically, after the cleansing, she covers my eyes and blasts some sandy, lemony scented stuff over my skin -- the micro particles. She advised me to use a sunscreen over my face for the next day or two after that, but I did not experience any ill effects. In fact, my skin was clearer under her monthly treatment and was softer and smoother than it had ever been in my life. My acne responded very well to micro dermabrasion. There are lots of anti wrinkle creams in the market but I doubt if they can beat micro dermabrasion. Enter the dermabrasion kits. These beat any of the home remedies for wrinkles you might encounter. Basically, the idea is to slough of dead skin cells, so as to smoothen the skin, reduce wrinkles and treat acne. Although a home dermabrasion kit cannot have the effectiveness of a surgical procedure, you can get pretty good, albeit more subtle results with some of the latest DIY dermabrasion kits here. If you have acne, then a dermabrasion kit would help. Acne happens when clogged pores get infected. With regular micro-dermabrasion, you clear the pores and keep the gunk from clogging up your skin. Acne wouldn't stand a chance.
